Farmhouse

Devanhalli, India

Located on a 5 acre farmland north of Bangalore city, the house serves as a retreat for a family with equestrian interests. The original masterplan done by Flying Elephant Studio included the main house, horse stables, groom’s residences and staff quarters. The horse stables were eventually designed by another architect and the original master plan underwent significant changes during the course of the project.

The main house, built entirely in bare concrete, accommodates a large living space on the ground floor that is open to nature on two sides. Bedrooms occupy the first floor, along with an informal living space that commands views of the undulating agricultural landscape around and Nandidurga hills’ rocky outcrop beyond to the North. The terrace houses a semi-open verandah type poolside lounge and roof garden.
