Luminous Fusion in Johor Bahru

Johor Bahru, Malaysia

In the middle of a lively business quarter of the port Johor Bahru in the south of Malaysia, there is a transformative office space which the interior designers of CRS Architects have christened "Luminous Fusion". On the fourth floor, the planners have created an innovate workspace for themselves, which masters the balancing act between aesthetics and functionality.

When entering the building, the visitor is offered an impressive view: a central hallway which is flooded with light and flanked by large glass walls which enable a panoramic view of the surrounding skyline. The internal walls are covered with a complex arrangement of glass blocks which are positioned strategically so that natural light falls into the interior space and softly illuminates the rough concrete floor underneath. At the same time, the slim partitions made from glass blocks subdivide the open work areas and their different uses. The design ethos of the office is defined by the emphasis on industrial elements which can be seen in the exposed pipes and tubs made from galvanised iron which pervade the ceiling like abstract sculptures. These robust and yet elegant accents serve as a visual reminder of the original entity of the building and give the contemporary aesthetics a feeling of authenticity and depth. In the darker offices areas in which there is less daylight available, delicate curtains fall from the ceiling to the floor and produce an interplay of shadows and translucency which gives the room a secretive and intimate atmosphere. Here employees can retire to private enclaves to work with more focus or to hold brainstorming meetings, wrapped in a cocoon of soft light. When day turns into night, the office is transformed again. Dynamic light installations create a warm, inviting atmosphere, in which the materials used produce new patterns and reflections.

The JUNG HOME system was used for the intelligent electrical installation. The intelligent switches and sockets of the LS 990 design range can be operated both manually and via an app on the smartphone. The surface-mounted variant LS CUBE sets colourful accents which complement the room atmosphere in the vibrant shade 4320A rouge vermillon 59.
